In just the second episode of Series 2, the Tenth Doctor and Rose got the royal treatment, as Tooth and Claw featured a guest spot from Queen Victoria.

The task of playing the monarch, who was under attack from a space werewolf (because of course she was), fell to Pauline Collins, who did a fabulous job bringing her to life.

Prior to her regal turn, Collins was a star of the stage, with multiple awards under her belt including a Tony and a BAFTA. She was also in the Second Doctor serial The Faceless Ones in 1967, and was later offered the role of companion, but declined. Her loss!

After Tooth and Claw, she appeared in an episode of Merlin in 2010, which was basically Doctor Who but with magic. Here, she played the love interest of Richard Wilson’s Gaius.

Though she hasn't been working much in recent years, she did have a sizable role in the TV series Dickensian between 2015 and 2016, which imagined a world where famous characters from across the Charles Dickens universe all existed in one place.
