Doctor Who Series 9: Everything We Already Know So Far

3. The Mistress

Missy. The Mistress. The Master. The Doctor's oldest friend and worst enemy returned in spectacular fashion last year, with Michelle Gomez's bats**t crazy portrayal of the villainous Time-Lord. The series 8 finale saw her seemingly getting zapped into oblivion, but of course nothing is ever that straightforward in Who, and the character will be returning right off the bat in series 9. Appearing in opening two-parter The Magician's Apprentice / The Witch's Familiar, Missy will be back to cause more chaos for her BFF. Gomez has said of their relationship that Missy "has to come at it from a different angle, which is surprising and exciting to play." Moffat himself added: "The way Missy comes back into the Doctor€™s life is probably not something you€™re going to predict." Aside from their 'friendship' and just how she survived series 8, there's also the matter her relationship with Clara to explore further as well, as Missy revealed she'd long been in the background of the pairing. Given just how great she was last year, it's exciting to think of just what Gomez can do this time around and how far they'll go with the character. In the meantime, there's this wonderfully weird video of Missy announcing her return (and love of apples) to enjoy. https://youtu.be/FPGLbKONmNE
