5. It's A Fair Question - What Is Pre-revolutionary France Doing On A Spaceship?
"The Girl in the Fireplace." You know, besides girls being in fireplaces* there are quite a few examples of things being in unlikely places here. The horse gets a lot of mention, and admittedly- randomly encountering a horse on a spaceship is pretty high up there on the 'huh?' meter. But when Mickey questions the weirdness of that The Doctor counters with the observation that the horse is not the strangest thing on the ship. I'm not sure why this doesn't get commented on more often because it's a hell of a good point. It is far more reasonable to expect a horse to be in space than it is to have an entirely unrelated historical going on there as well. Other notable examples of 'hey, that shouldn't be there' - classical clockwork inside high tech robots, and human organs grafted into the ship's wiring. A rare example on this list of weird being used for a chilling effect
*First off - if it needs to be said - you should absolutely not put girls into fireplaces. That's just bad parenting. But the point I really want to make here is - If the fireplace connection back to the spaceship is only undamaged because it was offline since it was moved to Versailles- what exactly was Madame Du P. shouting into not ten minutes earlier to call out for The Doctor's help?
