Doctor Who: The Bells of Saint John Review – 9 Points To Ponder

4. Why Do The Doctor And Clara Accept Each Other So Quickly?

bellsStJohn04

Does the Doctor, on some level, already know who Clara is? They form a close and trusting relationship exceedingly quickly, especially on the Doctor€™s part. The Doctor gives Clare a key to the TARDIS almost immediately in €œThe Snowmen€. He usually makes companions prove themselves a bit more before they gain that level of access. Clara, for her part, readily accepts the Doctor as an alien, with no signs of disbelief, when she questions him in €œThe Bells of Saint John€. We probably all have people in our lives that we€™ve formed instant connections with, as if we already recognized them even though we know we€™ve never met them before. Maybe we just don€™t remember them. The Doctor had trouble remembering the Great Intelligence in €œThe Snowmen€, even though he had dealt with it in previous incarnations. The universe is forgetting him. Is Clara some kind of reminder? The key to making his way back through his own memories and finding the core of his identity?
