Doctor Who: The Robot Revolution Review - 6 Ups & 5 Downs

7. UP - Ncuti Being Ncuti

Ncuti Gatwa seems very at ease in the role from the off in this series, and, dare I say it, gets to do a lot more traditional ‘Doctor-work’ this week, taking control and playing the hero.

As mentioned, Fifteen’s natural chemistry with Belinda already feels like an improvement on the somewhat hard to buy ‘best friends’ dynamic of Season One. This is a cheeky Doctor, and I think pairing him with a slightly more combative companion akin to the Tennant-Tate dynamic will allow him to shine a lot more. Let my man be sassy.

Of course he hits the traditional Fifteen beats, with a Kylie Minogue reference and a ‘Yas queen’, and this is never not fun. Love to see a Doctor living his best life and this really is where Gatwa feels most at home. Also, totally digging the new trim - very sharp. Kind of wish this was the default hairstyle for Fifteen going forwards, honestly.

Side note, before I move on: I feel like we really skimmed over the horrific implications of the Doctor causing a power-cut in an Intensive Care Unit. It’s a funny bit, but crikey…
