Doctor Who: Village Of The Angels Review - 8 Ups & 4 Downs

9. UP - The Angels Attack

FINALLY.

It’s hard to believe that The Weeping Angels have yet to be given their take on a staple Who format: the base-under-siege story. They are, predictably, a perfect fit for this format, as they attempt to break into Jericho’s surprisingly well fortified manor, chasing The Doctor for almost the entire run time of this episode.

Having Angels surrounding the house, breaking down windows and doors in their relentless pursuit of our heroes, makes this entire episode feel like a Who-ified zombie movie, and the Angels feel utterly unstoppable. We posit to you that they haven’t felt like such a strong threat since their first appearance in Blink.

If we’re allowed a tiny bit of criticism, we would have liked a few proper jumpscares in there, and we do miss that iconic orchestral sting that used to play when they moved. Having said that, the constantly building music this week was some of Segun Akinola’s best work.

Chibs - you knocked it out of the park this year with the returning villains. Good man.
