Doctor Who: War Of The Sontarans Review - 7 Ups & 5 Downs

2. DOWN - The Muri And Atropos

Due to its positioning as the C-plot of the episode, Yaz, Vinder and Swarm’s scenes felt like they had a lot to cover in very little screen time. As we mentioned, Swarm really got to flex his muscles here, but this came at the expense of explaining what was actually going on. Yes, that’s right, we’re marking down Chibs for a lack of exposition, we can’t quite believe it either.

From what we understand, there’s a new alien race called the Muri, who live in the Temple of Atropos, and they literally control time. This feels like a pretty major bombshell, and it’s not entirely believable given we’ve never heard of them before - surely this is something a Time Lord would know about? It feels under-explained, and isn’t aided by the music once again drowning out what little exposition we actually get.

Surely this is an all-powerful, god-like race? Nope. They just stand there and wait for Swarm to disintegrate them with no resistance. It’s a little odd. We did enjoy their angry little pyramid friends though. RIP.
