Doom Patrol: 10 Things Every Fan Needs To Know
5. Their Leader Is Practically A Supervillain
It’s not entirely fair to call Niles Caulder a supervillain. He’s canonically shown to really care for his team – albeit in the odd, messed up way Caulder does most things – and he goes out of his way to make sure his considerable intellect is used for good. Well. Generally.
But he’s also a super sketchy character, if not outright antagonistic a lot of the time. The ‘missions’ he sends the Doom Patrol on are quite often suicide missions, and his general treatment of them often seems more like he considers them experiments instead of teammates. In fact, he’s actively the villain in at least two volumes of the whole collection, and he’s not really that much better the rest of the time.
Caulder’s questionable status as hero is one of the most interesting parts of the series, so we’re sure to see his sketchy side feature in the series – be it this season, or later.
