Emmys 2018: Who Should Win Every Award (And Who Actually Will)

23. Directing For A Comedy Series

Atlanta FUBU
FX

Nominees: Atlanta - Fubu (Donald Glover); Atlanta - Teddy Perkins (Hiro Murai); Barry - Chapter One: Make Your Mark (Bill Hader); GLOW - Pilot (Jesse Peretz); The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel - Pilot (Amy Sherman-Palladino); Silicon Valley - Initial Coin Offering (Mike Judge)

Should Win: Atlanta

Hiro Murai has been a key component in the rise of Donald Glover, helping bring his visions to life whether its Atlanta or the This Is America music video, and Teddy Perkins is an innovative masterpiece. Otherworldy and terrifying, Murai makes Teddy's mansion a haunting place in an episode that never once allows you to settle, expertly capturing Glover's doll-like face and Lakeith Stanfield's growing unease while building our own at the same time.

Will Win: Atlanta

The Marvelous Mrs Maisel could nab the win here, especially with Amy Sherman-Palladino's sense of theatricality on full display (and it's actually a comedy), while Atlanta could split votes. But Perkins is so unusual, and so unforgettable, that it should have enough to take the prize.
