One of the best shows Netflix has released in years, the limited series When They See Us, chronicling the case of the Central Park Five, debuted earlier in 2019. The real-life story was a huge hit with critics and audiences, with its chances at the Emmys bolstered by a ridiculously talented ensemble cast, and the pedigree of Oscar nominee Ava DuVernay, who co-wrote and co-directed the show.

It wasn't surprising, then, when it bagged a ridiculous 11 nominations earlier this year, but it was a shock that it only took a single one of those home. Jharrel Jerome won out stiff competition in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie category, but the show failed to pick up any gold in the other categories.

That's partly because of Chernobyl, which came out of nowhere to best When They See Us at every step. Both shows are incredible and worthy of acclaim, but it's a shame When They See Us didn't go home with more.
