Emmys 2024 Review: 9 Ups & 7 Downs
4. Elton John Finally Gets His EGOT
With Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium winning the Best Variety Special (Live) award, the legendary musician became just the 19th person in history to win a competitive EGOT - that is, being awarded an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.
John joins the likes of Rita Moreno, Audrey Hepburn, Mel Brooks, Whoopi Goldberg, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and most recently Viola Davis - who finished her EGOT last year - to complete the ultra-rare artistic feat, and honestly, who's not going to consider him deserving?
It's been a long time coming, though, given that John had acquired three pieces of the EGOT quadrant by 2000, with the precious Emmy eluding him for almost an additional quarter-century.
Sadly he couldn't be there in person to accept the career-capping award due to recently undergoing surgery, but what a triumphant moment it was all the same.
