Every American Horror Story Season Ranked From Worst To Best

1. Coven

American Horror Story Coven Finale
FX

Through nine seasons and counting, the best American Horror Story has to offer is its third season, Coven. It had to be something incredible to beat Cult to the top spot, and that is exactly what the New Orleans witches bring to the table.

Throughout 13 episodes, we are introduced to a ridiculous number of badass women. Though she started off as something of a passive witch living in her mother's shadow, Cordelia Foxx evolved into what could be the strongest Supreme the coven has ever seen, and every one of her witches, Zoe, Misty, Queenie, Nan, and even Madison, are just as strong and incredible.

In terms of American Horror Story villains, there have been some simply incredible characters, and while Kai Anderson may be the greatest, Kathy Bates' Delphine LaLaurie is certainly not far behind. A truly despicable woman, Bates perfectly captures the hatred and racism she holds inside, while also portraying the confusion of a woman brought out of the time she knows.

The incredible season is absolutely the show's strongest, though not perfect. The inclusion of Stevie Nicks herself, temporarily turning the show into something of a musical, is a little jarring, and while Murphy and Falchuk were happy they could include this cameo, they seemingly never stopped to consider whether they should. This, however, is a small criticism, and nothing close to being able to knock Coven off the top spot.
