Every Classic Doctor Who Companion Ranked From Worst To Best

2. Ace

The Doctor and Ace
BBC

Ace served as the final companion of the classic era, not counting Grace Holloway. She travelled with the Seventh Doctor, easily matching him for courage and wit, though this version of the Time Lord had a darker, more manipulative side. He forced Ace to confront the demons of her past while withholding important information from her on various missions.

She kept up with him though, eventually gaining entry to the Time Lord Academy on Gallifrey. It would turn out that the Doctor had been manipulating her with this in mind, that her training had always been geared toward a higher purpose.

She was a fighter, taking on both the Cybermen and the Daleks during her time in the TARDIS. She managed to defeat a Dalek using only an enhanced baseball bat after the TARDIS arrived in 1963 just in time for the Remembrance of the Daleks.

Though she eventually left the Doctor, she continued to fight for the greater good, forming a charity named A Charitable Earth to help orphaned children. She was present to attend Sarah-Jane Smith's funeral, relating stories of the Time Lords back to Luke, Clyde and Rani.
