Every Doctor Who Series Opener - Ranked Worst To Best

10. Deep Breath

Doctor Who The Impossible Astronaut
BBC Studios

The Twelth Doctor really didn't have the best openers did he? His debut episode starts off very promising, with a T-Rex running amok in Victorian London, which suddenly spontaneously combusts.

It's all downhill from there unfortunately, with Moffat recycling the clockwork robot villains from The Girl In The Fireplace, who, as it turns out, are not actually that nefarious but are rather just trying to get to 'The Promised Land'.

Meanwhile Clara and the Paternoster Gang are as hit-or-miss as ever, charming in one scene and annoyingly unbearable the next. At 76 minutes, Deep Breath feels dragged out and the interludes cutting back to the companions don't help.

As for Capaldi, his Doctor's cold and quite rude personality isn't the must alluring, especially when he just straight up abandons Clara for certain death. Fans never really warmed to him and this episode played a big part in that. Although the line about: "Attack eyebrows", does bring a smile to my face.
