Every Doctor Who Series Opener - Ranked Worst To Best

9. Asylum Of The Daleks

Doctor Who The Impossible Astronaut
BBC Studios

The first half of Series 7 is mostly harmless as it gears up to the farewell of Amy Pond and Rory Williams and as a result, Asylum of the Daleks is a fun, entertaining, but ultimately forgettable episode.

The Eleventh Doctor and his companions get sent to a planet full of deranged Daleks, and it's fun and games, explosions and jokes, people shouting: "Exterminate" and "Geronimo". That is all perfectly fine, it really is, but in hindsight it's all just filler, making you wonder if they should have just ended Amy and Rory's arc after the Series 6 finale.

The Pond's divorce sub-plot also feels forced and when once it's resolved by the end of the episode, you ponder why it was there in the first place.

This episode does mark the first appearance of Clara Oswald or rather a future version of her called Oswin. The twist with her actually being a Dalek, is a real gut-punch if not a tad predictable, but given Clara's status as the most divisive Who character ever, I better not run the risk of placing this episode any higher on the list.
