16. Show Me A Hero (2015)
Show Me a Hero was written by David Simon, and stars Oscar Isaac in perhaps his best-ever role as politician Nick Wasicsko, the mayor of Yonkers. The show moves between big themes such as the economy and racism, but despite the would-be heavy tone Show Me a Hero is so incredibly acted and well written that no scene seems overdrawn or tedious.
Isaac is a revelation in the lead role, aided by Alfred Molina, Catherine Keener and Winona Ryder, but honestly it's the way the show tackles its timely themes that steals the spotlight, and is the exact reason Show Me a Hero is such a necessary viewing experience.
