8. Vice Principals
At this stage in his career, Danny McBride has mastered the art of playing comedic a**holes, and he seems to be slightly typecast in that part. If he’s annoyed by this he hides it well, since his character in Vice Principals is exactly the type of jerk he plays to perfection.
In the show, his character schemes with sleazy co-vice principal Walt Goggins to get the friendly new principal fired, and take the job for himself. McBride is playing the same petty, selfish man-child he usually does, though he gives his character here a little more depth thanks to his relationship with his ex-wife. Goggins is clearly having a blast with his role, and the show comes alive whenever he appears.
Vice Principals ultimately isn’t a patch on Eastbound And Down, but taken on its own merits it’s a fun, mean-spirited black comedy.
