Every Inside No. 9 Episode Ranked From Worst To Best

14. Nana's Party

Inside No 9
BBC

Plot: A family gathering for the matriarch's birthday party goes to s**t in every possible way.

Location: A suburban home.

This is another criminally underrated episode. Yes, it's not nearly as dark as most Inside No. 9 episodes (in fact, the opening makes us think this will be another dark episode but subverts our expectations at the end), but that's absolutely fine. Variety has always been one of this show's strengths and it's still an absolutely wonderful episode.

Not only is it incredibly funny - with probably the most hysterical Inside No. 9 twist of all - but it's absolutely filled with pathos and heartfelt character moments, so it's another spot-on mixture of comedy and tragedy.

The cast is notably good as well. In terms of the MVP of the actors, it's got to go to Lorraine Ashbourne for her terrific tragicomic performance as a troubled alcoholic, although Claire Skinner's hilarious performance as the neurotic, flustered party host also deserves a shout-out.

Both hilarious and deeply moving, this is an absolutely wonderful episode and it really deserves more appreciation from the show's fan-base
