Every Inside No. 9 Episode Ranked From Worst To Best

33. Empty Orchestra

Inside No 9
BBC

Plot: A group of colleagues gather in a karaoke bar to celebrate a promotion.

Location: A karaoke bar.

Since its broadcast, Empty Orchestra has been described as one of the worst Inside No. 9 episodes and while this is justified, that's certainly not to say that Empty Orchestra is a bad episode at all.

It is more mundane than most other episodes of the show and the characters aren't nearly as compelling or developed as normal, but there's still plenty to like here.

Empty Orchestra does boast a round-up of delightful comedic performances, many thoroughly entertaining musical sequences and a heart-warming happy ending that won't fail to make you smile. It's a lightweight story, but one you're very likely to enjoy all the same.

Additionally, the central concept - the songs the characters sing reflect plot developments and what the characters are feeling - works very well for the most part, even if it might've been better to save such an interesting idea for a meatier story.
