Every Modern Doctor Who Season Ranked From Best To Worst

This may be a slightly controversial entry for top spot, especially considering the season consisted of just two episodes and a minisode. What we did get though was close to perfection, a brilliant tale of our beloved Timelord finally dealing with his past and deciding to move forward rather than back.

The series begins with a brilliant minisode featuring the awfully under used Paul McGann, who shows off what a wonderful Doctor he would have been. This leads into the 50th anniversary special episode, The Day of the Doctor, that really feels like a feature length film in terms of scope and story.

The combination of Matt Smith and David Tennant is a delight and makes you wish they could meet up more often. There are an assortment of classic references to be savoured by Whovians while not ostracising casual viewers of the show, while the introduction and conclusion of William Hurt's Doctor's story arc is brilliantly handled. And how can one forget the return of Tom Baker, perhaps the greatest piece of fan service ever delivered.

The Time of the Doctor is the weakest of the three adventures, although the issues are more to do with unanswered questions related to season arcs than the episode itself. The explanation for the Silence and the crack in time may be a little sloppy, but seeing the Doctor grow old and prepare for his inevitable demise took the show in places it had never ventured before.

While he likes to know himself as the 'thunder from down under', Luke is actually just a big dork who loves all things sport, film, James Bond, Doctor Who and Karaoke. With all the suave and sophistication of any Aussie half way through a slab, Luke will critique every minute detail of films and shows from all eras- unless it's 1990's Simpsons episodes, because they're just perfect
