Every Time The Simpons REALLY Killed Characters
11. Beatrice Simmons
Season two's 'Old Money' is an often overlooked gem in the show's canon. This was the first time that Abe Simpson really got his turn in the spotlight and we followed his blossoming romance with Beatrice Simmons, a fellow resident at the Springfield Retirement Castle.
Abe and Bea had a whirlwind romance and truly made each other feel alive for the first time in many years. Their love and devotion to one another really pulls at the heartstrings and just goes to show that even at a time when the show was finding its feet, the writing was on top form.
Sadly the emotional high didn't last too long as midway through the episode, Abe is forced by Homer to go to a safari park on their monthly family outing - completely ignoring Abe's pleas that its Bea's birthday and he wants to spend time with her. After a whole host of hijinx involving lions, Abe eventually makes it back to the Retirement Castle and finds that Bea has died from a burst ventricle.
Abe laments that it wasn't the burst ventricle that killed her, but she died of a broken heart.
We're not crying, honestly.
