Everything We Know About Doctor Who Season 3

5. Season 3 Isn’t The ONLY One Russell T Davies Has Planned

Speaking of ol' Rusty and his plans for the future, it's not just Season 3 that he’s got mapped out on his living room wall, and it sounds like he definitely wants to stick around if he has his way.

In a recent interview with Parade he said:

"We'll always look ahead to the future if we get the chance to keep running. I've got ideas. 'I think I'll do that near Season 4 or 5.' And that's always the way I've worked on things. So yes, I could promise you amazing stuff at the end of Season 4. There are things we've already mentioned that are going to bear fruit a long time into the future. So that's just the fun of it. That's the fun of Doctor Who."

And going back even further (to November 2023), RTD revealed that "there are plans for Season 4", indicating that his vision for the Fifteenth Doctor was a lot grander than the two seasons we ended up getting.

It does make you wonder what we might be missing out on now that the situation has clearly changed. Were Ruby and Belinda intended to stick around for Seasons 3 and 4? In which of those seasons was "The Boss" going to be paid off? And were the Master and the Daleks a part of his plans?

Alas, we may never know for sure. Here’s hoping for another tell-all edition of The Writer’s Tale at some point in the future!

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
