4. The Outbreak Begins

The next day when everyone reports to school they find that a video from an incident the night before has gone viral. A man who was presumed deceased is being attended to by emergency responders when he suddenly reanimates and begins attacking them. He withstands an assault from police batons and is shot multiple times without stopping before a bullet to the head finally puts him down permanently. One can't help but feel that this scene was meant as commentary on the current climate where viral videos of incidents of police brutality have caused an increasing amount of unrest and controversy - especially considering remarks made by some of the characters as they watch the video. Not long afterwards the principal announces over the loudspeaker that school is being dismissed early. Madison instructs Alicia to head home if/when Nick returns, and then she and Travis depart immediately so they can escape the parking lot before being blocked in by the massive amounts of traffic. As they're leaving she locks eyes with Tobias, a student who tried to warn her about the terrors to come earlier in the episode.
