Friends: Every Halloween And Thanksgiving Episode Ranked

2. The One With The Halloween Party

Friends Thanksgiving
NBC

Friends' only Halloween episode is evidently Lisa Kudrow's favorite. Fitting, since it's one of the few episodes on this list to give her any sort of meaningful conflict. It's always fun to see Kudrow explore her wilder side as Ursula, but Phoebe's interactions with Sean Penn as Ursula's fiancé pave the way for a moral dilemma that could've easily spanned multiple episodes.

It's a nice change of pace, although the resolution feels woefully open-ended in light of this being Ursula's last appearance in the series. Rachel's storyline feels similarly unfinished, treating her maternal fears as a mere punchline rather than an emotional conflict worthy of catharsis. Both actors perform excellently in this episode, and their characters each have some great moments, but it would've been nice to see more growth or finality in their arcs.

The best part of this episode, though, is simply that it's a Halloween episode. Watching Ross and Chandler arm wrestle to show off in front of their respective love interests might not be half as funny if they weren't dressed as a space potato and a giant pink bunny. It might be a little disconcerting how openly rude Chandler and Joey are to Ross's date, but the episode as a whole is funny enough to make up for these few poorly aged moments.
