The nerdy palaeontologist who loves dinosaurs was often trying to be the good guy. He helped Rachel get ready after she hurt her ribs, even though it meant that he missed appearing on TV. He also planned to take her to prom after she appeared to have been stood up. Ross believes in love, even if it means that he might keep having to get divorced.
Yet despite this, Ross often makes poor decisions that he comes to regret. He gets jealous when he thinks another guy might be interested in Rachel, then sleeps with another woman within hours of thinking the pair had split up. Ross is even forced to leave his museum job after he loses his temper over a sandwich.
Whatever you think of Ross, he is always there for his friends. Despite their often messy past, in the finale he even manages to end up with the girl he's loved almost his whole life.
