2. Ramsay Snow
You know a show is twisted when Ramsay Snow only notches up second place in the most hated characters list. Similar to Lysa and Craster, he's at least a character who's hated for the right reasons, with Iwan Rheon's performance being highlighted by fans as one of the standouts.
Ramsay's cruelty was so focussed, malicious and intricately planned that he somehow found new depths of evil. Nothing about him suggested any justification, even to himself. He simply liked torturing people.
Right from the start, where he pretended to save Theon only to lead him right back to his trap, Ramsay was a villain who fully understood that it's the hope that kills you. With Theon, Sansa and Rickon all falling prey to his horrific treatment, he sunk his claws into some major characters too.
One thing he was essential to though was Theon's image rehabilitation. Had Theon continued on his Season Two trajectory, he easily could have wound up here. The unspeakable abuse from Ramsay, Theon's identity struggle and of course, Alfie Allen's brilliant acting all combined to see Theon wind up as one of the most popular characters in Westeros.
