Game Of Thrones Ending: 12 Disturbing Implications You Probably Missed
5. The Debt To The Iron Bank
The Ending
Even before Dany is vanquished and Bran sits on the new not-Iron Throne, Cersei is taken out of the picture by the light smattering of bricks that sends her and Jaime to hell for incest, murder, attempted murder and even more incest.
Cue jubilation: ding dong, the witch is dead and there will be no comeback from this at all.
But Wait...
What about the Iron Bank? Strictly speaking, they are the greatest kingmakers in the entire Seven Kingdoms and the Free Cities (and even wider), because money makes the world go round. It's their backing of Stannis and Cersei that is said to be game-changing and while it's not in the end, that's more down to misjudgements by their allies rather than by the bank.
There's some suggestion that the Iron Bank back Cersei because she's a more dependable leader than Dany in terms of paying back debts. Crucially, Cersei also pays back the massive debt to the Bank and then takes out another to pay The Golden Company, which presumably is never paid back when she and the Company all die.
This is a debt owed by the crown, not by Cersei, so that's going to mean the Bank are going to come calling. And they're going to have to deal with Bronn, who is DEFINITELY not the person you want to be in that position considering he wanted to spend the crown's purse on whorehouses and not infrastructure and the navy.
