5. What's The Role Of The Night's Watch?

Jon's story comes to an extremely fitting conclusion as he heads back to the Wall, bringing his journey full circle. While the significance of that, and is reunion with Ghost, is wonderful, there is the question of the method, which is that Jon's sent to the Night's Watch after killing Daenerys.

As Jon himself asks: "There's still a Night's Watch?"

It's a worthwhile question: not only have the Night's Watchmade peace with the Wildlings, but there don't appear to be many, if any, Crows left, with everyone we see in the end a Wildling. There aren't any more White Walkers yet, as far as we know, and the Wall itself has a huge chunk missing. So what is the role of the Night's Watch now? What is the shield guarding the realm of men from?
