Game Of Thrones: Power Ranking Every Major House
1. House Lannister
Status: Active
Remaining Family Members: Tyrion, Jamie, Cersei
Family Members Lost: Tywin, Kevan and Lancel
When it comes to power players in Westeros, no one has had more control of more people and more places than the Lannister family. As the richest family in the land, they have been able to buy armies and leaders. They have been just as responsible for shaping the events in the Seven Kingdoms as the Kings have been.
While the primary Lannister family has remained mostly intact, the outlying Lannisters have been killed throughout the series. Several relations of the Lannisters were killed during the War of the Five Kings, including Alton Lannister who is coincidentally murdered by Jamie in his failed escape attempt from the Stark camp.
Several seasons later, the patriarch Tywin is murdered during Tyrion’s successful escape attempt from King’s Landing. To fill the vacuum of power left by Tywin’s absence, his brother Kevan steps in as Hand of the King. Brash and strong, Kevan is able to put Jamie and Cersei in their place while he is serving the crown. Unfortunately for Kevan, he wanted to attend Cersei’s trial and likely conviction at the Sept. Going up in green flames with everyone else, he was the last of Cersei’s enemies to fall in the bombing.
Prospects For The Future:
It is safe to say that the most powerful family in Westeros at the end of the Sixth Season was the Lannisters. Following the suicide of her last remaining son, Cersei steps up and takes the Iron Throne to become Queen Cersei Lannister, First of Her Name. With her twin brother/lover Jamie by her side, she is certainly the most powerful person in Westeros, for the moment.
As Cersei was ascending the steps to her new throne, her younger brother Tyrion had plans of his own. Sailing with Daenerys and serving as her Hand, he has risen to be the second in command of her coming regime. Should her rebellion prove successful, likely remain to serve Queen Daenerys for many years before retiring to Casterly Rock. While the family gold mines may have dried up, the Lannisters are still the force to be reckoned with in the Seven Kingdoms, no matter who is ruling.
