Game Of Thrones: Ranking Every Major Battle From Worst To Best

6. Loot Train Attack

Game of Thrones Drogon
HBO

This might not have been the first time we saw Dany's dragons on the battlefield, but thanks to the ingenious decision to make the audience witness Drogon's fearsome attack on the Lannister forces through their eyes, it was the first time we really felt the impact.

The awfully-named Loot Train Attack (also known as Battle of the Goldroad) was also one of the most perfect expressions of the real problem fans would face for the last couple of seasons: we were effectively being forced to choose between our favourites, knowing that someone had to lose. It's never just a case of "this guy's evil and this guy's great" in Westeros and watching Bronn and Jaime in the firing line was awful, despite Cersei definitely deserving the loss.

Even with Drogon bathing the battlefield in fire, Dany's victory still came at a cost, though, and the sequence showing Bronn's run through the battle to the scorpion launcher is some of the best directing in the show's history. The whole thing was an emotional rollercoaster and easily a badass stand-out of the season.
