Game Of Thrones: Ranking Every Season 6 Storyline From Worst To Best
5. The Queen Of Meereen
Key Characters: Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister, Olenna Tyrell, Yara Greyjoy, Theon Greyjoy, Varys, Ellaria Sand, Varys, Missandei, Grey Worm
Best Moment: Daenerys sets sail for Westeros, aided by a large army.
Worst Moment: Everything is Tyrion's fault.
A sigh of relief and excitement was heard around the world as Daenerys is finally, thankfully, on her way to Westeros.
Prior to that, the Mother of Dragons first has to deal with the slaver's siege on Meereen. It had the potential to be stretched out over a very long period, but the show instead opts for a quick resolution, allowing Daenerys to truly flex the might of her power in the process. No more drawn out proceedings, it is time for the future Queen of Westeros (hopefully) to bring the hammer down, featuring one of the show's best CGI moments to date.
Additionally, Daenerys appointing Tyrion as Hand of the Queen provides a rare, touching moment. This serves as a fascinating juxtaposition to Tyrion's time with Joffrey, kneeling for his queen, while refusing to do so for his king.
Almost everything about this feels like a moment to cheer. Almost. There is a logical leap with the fact that the siege happened almost entirely due to Tyrion's failures at diplomacy. Why would he be appointed as the Hand? Additionally, the aforementioned "Daenerys M.I.A." storyline sucked a lot of interest out of this one.
Nonetheless, Daenerys setting sail is a long time coming, and is easily the most exciting development to come out of Season 6.
