Game Of Thrones: Ranking Every Season 6 Storyline From Worst To Best
4. The Night's Watch
Key Characters: Jon Snow, Davos Seaworth, Melisandre, Tormund Giantsbane, Eddison Tollett, Olly, Alliser Thorne
Best Moment: Jon Snow brought back from the dead. Obviously.
Worst Moment: The weird, unexplained reveal that Melisandre is actually an old woman in disguise.
This story of Jon's return only lasts three episodes, but that's a part of what makes it so great. Dragging it out would have only incensed the fan base. Instead, viewers are treated to a well-paced storyline with a satisfying conclusion.
Waiting to revive Jon until the second episode is ultimately the right decision, building up the final reveal without spoiling it by waiting too long. The moments between when Melisandre leaves the room and when Jon wakes up is a master class in building tension with a perfectly timed pay off.
The follow-up features two moments destined to be among Game of Thrones' all time greatest moments: the execution of the traitors, and Jon leaving the Night's Watch, seriously increasing the quality of this short storyline. At long last, Jon is now free of their smothering presence, ending a five year long saga.
The only minor issue comes at the end of the premiere, where Melisandre takes off a necklace and becomes an old woman. Besides some clear continuity problems, it's a point that isn't addressed for the remainder of the season.
At the end of the day, who cares? Jon's back, and better than ever.
