While Season 5's ninth episode, typically The Big One in Game of Thrones terms, is a little less so because of Hardhome coming just before it, it does deliver in one huge way: Daenerys riding a dragon for the first time.

This is a monumental occasion that's been built to since the Season 1 finale, and while it does convey the sense of wonder, it's also interesting to look back at the CGI then compared to what's come since. It's not terrible by any means, especially for a TV show, but there are some moments where you can see how poorly rendered it is.

In Season 6's Battle of Meereen, however, and the many appearances in Season 7, the effects work on the dragons is generally outstanding, showing not only how they've increased the budget, but also just how much better equipped they are to do it now as well (which bodes well for Season 8, since there'll probably be more dragon action than ever before).
