4. What Mission Is Varys On?

And in the 'can't work out what they're up to' stakes, Varys edges back ahead of Littlefinger this week.

The Spider departs Meereen, an unfortunate breaking up of his partnership with Tyrion, and is on a secret mission. All he says is that they "need friends in Westeros...and ships."

That, coupled with what we've already seen, gives one easy answer: the Greyjoys. Yara and Theon are sitting in Volantis, already panning on heading to Meereen, so could he be going to meet them halfway?

Probably not. He could just wait for them to arrive, for one thing, and there'd be no need for secrecy for another. So what are the other options?

Dorne seems like the strongest contender right now. They're opposed to Lannister rule, Targ-loyalists, and have been MIA since the first episode. Otherwise, he could be going to do that thing he does in the books, but hasn't in the show yet, though I don't see how that would fit with the alleged purpose of the mission.

Also, can it really be a coincidence that Varys arrives in Meereen just after Dany leaves, and then takes off just before she returns?
