Game Of Thrones Season 6: 10 Ups And 2 Downs From 'Home'

5. Winterfell And Wyllis

Game of Thrones hasn't really utilised flashbacks, save for the one with Cersei last year, but they're set to become a much bigger part of the show this year. If they're as good as this one (and with some stronger material to come, they should be even better) then that'll certainly be for the good of the series, because this scene is great, and full of the warmth you don't often find in Westeros, especially the North.

We go back in time to Winterfell, before the Boltons, before the War of the Five Kings, even long before Robert's Rebellion. Instead it finds Ned and his brothers as children, fighting with wooden swords. It's a nice touch to see a young Ned Stark, and a reminder of Benjen, but there are a couple of standout moments.

The first is when Lyanna rides in. The casting here seems spot-on with descriptions we've had of her in the past, and her arrival should signal the start of a much bigger storyline in the flashbacks. The second, of course, is Hodor. Or should that be Wyllis. Seeing him as the young stableboy we knew he was isn't that big a deal, but hearing him talk properly?
