Game Of Thrones Season 6: 8 Things That Don't Make Any Sense (So Far)

3. Why Does Nobody Care There's A Zombie In The Kingsguard?

Game of Thrones Ser Robert Strong
HBO

For a cast of characters so paranoid by the idea of the undead (they either know of and totally fear the White Walkers or they scoff at the very idea of undead out of ignorance and a deep terror) they've reacted remarkably well to coming face to face with it.

Perhaps the Watch's swift acceptance of Jon can be forgiven given all they've seen and the fact it's Jon Snow, but the resurrection of Gregor Clegane has barely caused anyone in King's Landing to bat an eyelid. For an incredibly brief period he was Ser Robert Strong, an attempt by Qyburn to conceal the knight's true identity. Yet almost instantaneously everyone now just acknowledges that he's Gregor Clegane. Not only that, but the Lannisters and the council seem totally okay about him being a member of the Kingsguard. A zombie with access to the king – that's not concerning at all, right?

Okay, so there was a scene in which Pycelle refers to him as an abomination to the rest of the council, but given how the vast majority of the people in Westeros and beyond scoff at the very notion that undead could possibly exist, their subsequent reaction has been extremely lukewarm. The confirmation that humans can genuinely be raised from the dead is an earth shattering concept, which made sense when the council believed he was Ser Robert Strong (Strong didn't have to be undead, just a horrific experiment). Now that everyone agrees it's Gregor, you'd think confirmation of zombies would have bigger implications than the occasional Pycelle-based fart joke. It especially cheapens the series-long fight to get people to believe in Wights and White Walkers.
