Game Of Thrones Season 6: 8 Things You Might've Missed In 'Battle Of The Bastards'

1. The Curse Of King Robert

Game of Thrones King Robert Baratheon Ned Catelyn Stark

While things have generally been on the up for the Starks this year, it didn't go well for poor Rickon this week. He never uttered a word since his return from a three-year absence, and was killed by Ramsay Bolton as a trap for Jon (and because he didn't f**king zig-zag).

Rickon now joins Ned, Catelyn, and Robb as the dead Starks, meaning just half of those we met back in Season 1 (including Jon) are alive. Maybe it's because they're more important characters. Maybe they've been lucky. Or maybe it's because they didn't get touched by Robert Baratheon.

When he turns up at Winterfell in the pilot, he greets Ned like the old friend he is, hugs Catelyn, pats Rickon on the head, and shakes Robb's hand. He does not touch Bran, Sansa, Arya, or Jon, meaning everyone he did come into phsycial contact with has now died. Coincidence, the curse of King Robert, or some absolutely incredible foreshadowing?

It's also worth noting in the scene that when he speaks to Arya, he asks her name, the first example of her storyline being about identity.
