8. Dragons - Winners

Ever since Daenerys rode Drogon in the penultimate episode of Season 5, dragons - or at least that dragon - have been growing in importance. They've long been setup to be key, but it's the last couple of years that've really started delivering on that, and none more so than Season 7.

Even in a season where a dragon died, they won. The CGI for them was better than ever before, which helped add to the remarkable spectacle of Season 7, but they were also used much more effectively in the narrative too.

Drogon had his time to shine in The Spoils of War, echoing Balerion the Black Dread as he created a new Field of Fire in utterly stunning fashion, while also having some bonding time with Jon Snow for good measure. Viserion may have been killed, but he rose to become a truly ferocious weapon in his own right, and given far more importance than when he was just one of the not-Drogon dragons, including stealing the show in the finale's closing moments.
