Game Of Thrones Season 7: 9 Things You Might've Missed In 'Stormborn'
3. The Stark Callbacks
Once again this was another instalment heavy on referencing Ned Stark, with the most obvious callback - but also the most fun to watch, being Jon grabbing Littlefinger by the throat and slamming him against the wall while threatening him, much like his 'father' did back in Season 1's Lord Snow.
While that grabbed the attention, there were some smaller references in Stormborn too. There was the "that's not you" line mentioned earlier, and we even got to see Ned Stark's tomb, which is in his familiar pose, hands on sword. We also see kids training as archers in the Winterfell courtyard, much like we witness in Winter Is Coming, the same episode where we first heard Tyrion's "all dwarves are bastards" line.
Perhaps the most crucial, though, is Sansa's warning to Jon. When he decides he is going to meet Daenerys at Dragonstone, she reminds him of Rickard Stark, saying: "Have you forgotten what happened to our grandfather? The Mad King invited him to King's Landing and roasted him alive." This is an event that has been described on the show before - in most detail by Jaime Lannister - and was referred to by Catelyn Stark in Season 1, as she tried to talk Ned out of going South, reminding him of what happened to his father and brother. It's another parallel between Sansa and her mother, much like Littlefinger's interest (and the angry response of Ned/Jon).
Sansa also has to remain in Winterfell here while Jon rides to Dragonstone because, of course, there must always be a Stark in Winterfell.
