Game Of Thrones Season 7: 9 Ups And 2 Downs From 'Eastwatch'

2. Gendry Returns

Thanks to set leaks, we knew it was coming in Season 7. Thanks to IMDb, we then knew it was coming in this episode, and that was reinforced by the opening credits. The return of Gendry may not have been kept secret, but that didn't make it any less enjoyable.

Not only did Davos deliver a huge 'nudge-nudge, wink-wink' line - "I thought you might still be rowing..." - but Joe Dempsie didn't miss a beat upon his return. He may not have been on the show since Season 3, but he immediately falls straight back into place as Gendry.

Bobby B's bastard is a welcome sight - he's a very human, honest character with a good heart, and there aren't too many of those around in Westeros. He and Davos make for an entertaining pair (Liam Cunningham is on top form in this episode too), and whether it's caving in the heads of some Gold Cloaks, or striking up a bromance with Jon Snow (that line about their fathers is even better when the truth is that Gendry's dad killed Jon's), Gendry's long-anticipated return does not disappoint.

It gives us a satisfying answer to where he's been all this time (hiding out in Flea's Bottom, doing what he does best, which makes a lot of sense really), and quickly brings him back into the main fold, without the need for too much clunky exposition, while it gives us another fan-favourite to be very worried about in the next episode.
