Game Of Thrones Season 8 Breakdown: What 'The Long Night' REALLY Means
5. Arya Was The Prince That Was Promised?
It definitely appears that the episode is trying to suggest that Arya is indeed the Lord Of Light's Chosen One. When he dies, Melisandre pointedly says that Beric was brought back for a reason and having saved Arya from the wight who looked certain to kill her, his role was fulfilled.
And then after feeding Arya the "what do we say to the God of Death" line that so famously forms the core of her defiance, Melisandre essentially seems to confirm that she is indeed the Prince Who Was Promised. Or she gives Arya the confidence in herself to believe her importance to such an extent that she then goes and does the unthinkable, killing the Night King unexpectedly.
It will infuriate some fans that this cap on her story-telling wasn't quite earned (the same way her tryst with Gendry wasn't quite either), because we've seen Jon and Dany both being set up as more likely candidates for a long time. And yes, subversion is all well and good and that's what the show is known for, but try telling that to the entire fanbase and you'll find Arya like stubbornness from some quarters.
