Game Of Thrones Theories: 15 Epic Season 7 Moments Still To Come

11. Sam's Discovery

Game of Thrones Sam Tarly Citadel
HBO

Every sh*tty bedpan and scab peeled from Jorah's riddled body has led Sam to the key position he now occupies in the Citadel, sitting surrounded by disintegrating scrolls covered in mites and tasked with retranscribing them as "punishment" for him ignoring Archmaester Ebrose and healing Ser Mormont of Friendzone.

The reality is that Ebrose is no more punishing Sam than he was angry at him for healing Jorah. He is fundamentally a good man (the Citadel is the very definition of a neutral neutral) and him giving those scrolls to Sam - which absolutely will not be randomly chosen ones - is an act of quite defiance, just as it is of reward. He knows that Sam is seeking information to help Jon Snow when the Long Night comes, and this is how he will help him find it.

So don't be surprised if Sam discovers the secret of Valyrian steel forging in there, or some key to the Night King's past. And that information will be so key that Sam will be compelled to leave the Citadel entirely to find Jon.
