Game Of Thrones: 10 Criminally Overlooked Performances

10. Burn Gorman As Karl, Member Of The Night's Watch

Burn Gorman has been very busy lately €“ between appearances in such blockbusters as Pacific Rim, and The Dark Knight Rises, this former Torchwood star has filled the screen with small but memorable performances at an increasingly prolific rate. One of his most recent appearances saw him as a Night's Watchman named Karl in a couple episodes of season 3. Karl is an absolutely minor role, but there is a key scene in episode 4, "And Now His Watch Has Ended" where Gorman's performance shines as a true scene stealer. The scene involves a mutiny of hungry and desperate Night's Watchmen, who kill both Craster and their own commander. This riot is instigated by Karl, who steals the scene right out from under the more developed minor characters, highlighting both the obsession and paranoia the Watchmen have been driven to. In one of the season's most tense moments, Gorman uses verbal insults to antagonise the wildling Craster, and his delivery is spot on. Why is this Performance Overlooked? Quite simply, it is because this is such a small role. Gorman only appears in 2 episodes, only doing anything noteworthy in that one scene I mentioned, but this is nonetheless a showcase of what a tiny guest role can bring to a series.
