Game Of Thrones: 10 Things We Learned From "Breaker Of Chains"
6. Tywin Has A Proposition For Oberyn
If theres one thing weve learned about Oberyn since we met him, its that he loves the ladies...and men. We were reminded of this as we arrived to him and Ellaria having a good ol fashioned Dornish orgy. However, this love fest is soon interrupted by Tywin Lannister, who looks as out of place at a whorehouse as The Hound would entertaining at a childrens hospital. Oberyn extends his sympathies about Joffrey, but Tywin doubts his sincerity. He points out that Oberyn is knowledgeable about poisons and how coincidental it is that several days after he arrives in Kings Landing, Joffrey is poisoned. The conversation soon switches to Oberyns belief that Tywin was responsible for The Mountain killing his sister Elia, which Tywin firmly denies. Oberyn demands to speak with The Mountain, and Tywin agrees on one condition: Oberyn must serve as the third judge, alongside Tywin and Mace Tyrell, in Tyrions trial, as well as serve as an advisor in Tommens new small council. Tywin points out that with Joffrey dead, the Greyjoys rebelling, the wildlings about to attack the Wall and Daenerys impending return to Westeros (with three dragons), the Seven Kingdoms need Dorne back in the fray. Having Oberyn serve on the trial is an interesting choice by Tywin. Unlike Mace Tyrell (who Tyrion later points out will vote however his father does), Oberyns vote is less certain. Though he holds a grudge against the Lannisters, he appears to have an amicable relationship with Tyrion. However, his main goal is to see justice for what happened to his sister. Whether this will affect how he judges Tyrion is unknown, but one things certain: Oberyn and The Mountains eventual chat will be awkward, to say the least.
