Game Of Thrones: 7 Things We Learned From "The Lion And The Rose"

2. Weddings Are Great For Exchanging Insults

People don€™t go to weddings just to see two people exchange vows of holy matrimony. They also go to exchange passive aggressive quips. First up were Jaime and Loras Tyrell (who, by the way, was gazing longingly at Oberyn Matrell during the post-wedding festivities). Jaime €œinnocently€ asks Loras whether he€™s looking forward to marrying Cersei. When Loras states that he is, Jaime promptly replies that if Loras were to marry Cersei, she would kill him and any offspring that they may have, but luckily for him, he won€™t ever marry Cersei. Loras curtly replies, €œNeither will you,€ and walks away. It doesn€™t matter where you€™re from, them€™s fightin€™ words. Next, we had Cersei and Brienne. Cersei thanks Brienne for returning Jaime safely to King€™s Landing, but it was obvious she had ulterior motives for striking up a conversation. When Brienne points out that Jaime had actually saved her, Cersei notes that she must have a lot of fascinating stories to tell from her time, flitting from €œone camp to the next, serving whichever lord or lady you fancy.€ Though Brienne denies serving Jaime, Cersei asks her whether she loves Jaime, to which Brienne excuses herself. Though Brienne and Jaime have shared an interesting relationship, there hasn€™t been any indication that she actually loves him. With all the romances that show already has, it would be a refreshing change of course to simply have a man and woman sharing a purely platonic relationship. Freshly irritated, Cersei walks off to find Maester Pycelle hitting on a young lady. Referring the lady to Qyburn (the former maester that accompanied Jaime and Brienne back to King€™s Landing), Cersei chastises Pycelle for trying to get his €œgnarled fingers on that girls thighs.€ Though he attempts to assert his professionalism, Cersei won€™t have any of it and states that he€™s annoying her simply by breathing. To get rid of him, she orders Pycelle to go to the kitchens and order the leftover food to be fed to the dogs, even though Margarey stated earlier that they would be fed to the poor. Just goes to show that even though Margarey is the new queen, Cersei still plans on asserting her power and screwing over her daughter-in-law. Finally, we had Cersei and Tywin vs. Oberyn and Ellaria. After introducing Ellaria to the Lannisters, Cersei comments on how she€™s never met a Sand before. After pointing out that Dorne is more tolerant of bastards, Oberyn quips about Cersei no longer having to wear the crown anymore. Cersei states that it€™s unfortunate that he€™ll never know since his older brother is prince. Tywin expresses his hope that Prince Doran€™s disease will go away someday, to which Oberyn remarks how it€™s known as the €œrich man€™s disease€ and wonders why Tywin doesn€™t have it. When Tywin points out their differences in lifestyle, Oberyn agrees and states that in some areas, the rape and murder of women and children is considered repugnant; an subtle dig at what the Lannister's troops have been doing throughout the countryside. We know that there€™s bad blood between the Lannisters and Martells, but this war of words was a good indicator of the contempt the two families feel towards each other.
