Game Of Thrones: 7 Things We Learned From "The Lion And The Rose"

1. The King Is Dead

Despite everything discussed previously, nothing compared to the big event of King Joffrey Baratheon biting the dust! One of the most despised characters on the show (and possibly all of television) died a painful death after drinking poisoned wine. However, let€™s take a look back at what led to this. For his final appearance there were plenty of Joffrey antics to go around; from chopping Tyrion€™s book in half with his new sword Widow€™s Wail, offering a reward to anyone who knocked Dontos€™ hat off his head, or making a group of dwarves perform a crude play of the War of the Five Kings, which particularly upset Loras and Sansa over its representations of Renly and Robb, respectively. However, Joffrey got in his last bit of cruelty by embarrassing the person he hates most: uncle Tyrion. After attempting to get his uncle to join the performance, he forces him to be his cup-bearer and screws with him further by dropping and kicking the cup under a table. Tyrion retrieves the cup, but refuses to kneel when Joffrey commands him to. Before the situation gets worse, the wedding pie is delivered. After chopping the pie in half (RIP dove who didn€™t make it out of the pie with the others), Joffrey takes another sip of wine and starts to choke. After falling to the ground, his nose starts bleeding and he starts to froth at the mouth. Cersei rushes to her son€™s aid, but there€™s nothing to be done. In his last moments of life, Joffrey points to Tyrion, who is examining the cup that Joffrey drank from. A few seconds later, the young king expires. Angered, Cersei accuses Tyrion of murdering her son and demands the guards arrest him. It finally happened. The character that most fans wanted dead is now rotting in the seven hells. Needless to say, this was a huge turning point for the show. Despite being one of the most despicable characters on the show, Joffrey continued to live, much to the chagrin of the audience. With each new person he tormented or ridiculed, we wondered when he was going to get what was coming to him. Well rest easy, karma struck back and no one will suffer at the hands of this petulant tyrant any longer. The question now is who poisoned him? Despite Tyrion being arrested, it looks like he's been set up as the scapegoat for the murder. Unfortunately, the list of people who would want Joffrey dead is as long as Walder Frey€™s family line. With the post-wedding celebrations packed with people, the suspects are numerous. Who could it have been? Tywin? Jaime? Olenna? Margarey? Oberyn? Dontos? One thing€™s for sure: other than Cersei, no one€™s going to miss that little terror. So long, Joffrey! The land of Westeros just got a little better with your passing.
