Game Of Thrones Season 4: 5 Places We’d Like To See Explored

3. Asshai-By-The-Shadow

Asshai Essos, the continent on which the Dothraki Sea, The Free Cities, Slaver's Bay, and the Red Waste lay, is absolutely humongous and stretches far further East beyond Qarth. At the Eastern-most edge of known Essos lies a mountainous peninsula known as the Shadow Lands, and at the South-western-most edge of this peninsula lies Asshai, a port city. We know very little about Asshai, but what we do know sounds very intriguing. For one, it is where the Red Priestess Melisandre comes from. and we also know that this is where Illyrio Mopatis procures the dragons eggs which he gifts to Daenerys. Thus we know that this land will be one enriched in magic, and probably of a dark nature. It is said that warlocks, spellsingers and aeromancers practise their arts openly in the streets of Asshai. With it being a port city, it also forms part of trade route, and supposedly deals in goods such as amber and dragonglass. The people of Asshai have a particularly dark reputation, described by the Dothraki as being "spawns of shadow," and this would make for a very ominous and mysterious setting for a character journey. I can't imagine anyone choosing to go to a land enthralled by shadow, but on the off chance that someone does make their way there, it would be a unique experience for us as viewers and readers.
