Games Of Thrones Season 7 Finale: What 'The Dragon And The Wolf' Really Means

5. Jaime Changes Sides

In the wake of Cersei's revelation, Jaime lives up to expectations to stab her in the back - but rather than running her through with Widow's Wail, it's very much a symbolic stabbing as he turns on her and breaks their allegiance.

Having broken his oath to protect his king during Robert's Rebellion, Jaime refuses to turn on his pledge to help Dany and Jon in the North (it also helps that he is terrified by the prospect of the dead army), prompting Cersei to threaten him with execution for treason.

"Nobody walks away from me", she says. Well, they do, Cersei, as your twin brother just did.

He seemingly heads North as snow falls on King's Landing (though curiously without Bronn), and will presumably join up with Jon, Dany and Tyrion again in season 8. He'll then no doubt tell them about Cersei's deception, which makes her decision to let him go look rather sloppy, so she'll probably send a killer after him early in that season too.

In the long-term it wouldn't be at all surprising if Jaime leads the fight against Cersei's army on one front while Jon and Dany fight the White Walkers on the other, eventually living up to the Valonqar prophecy.
