Games Of Thrones Season 4: 20 Most Hotly Anticipated Moments

15. Jaime Gives Brienne Oathkeeper

The Jaime/Brienne dynamic is one of the best arcs of A Storm Of Swords, and not surprisingly, this turned out to be the case with season three of Game of Thrones as well. It€™s easy to see why this is: it involves two characters who have made up their minds not only about each other, but the world in general. It is only through enduring hardships together that they realize they may have misjudged each other. This relationship is only going to develop further in season four, particularly for Jaime. After arriving in King€™s Landing, Jaime Lannister attempts to redeem himself by treating his vows more seriously. He reintegrates himself in the King€™s Guard, becoming Lord Commander, much to the displeasure of his father Tywin. One of his first noble acts is sending Brienne off to recover Catelyn Stark€™s daughters as a means of keeping their vow to her. To symbolize his trust in her with this task, he actually gives her his brand new Valyrian steel sword Oathkeeper, which had been given to him by Tywin. This should be a hugely emotional moment in the show. It deepens the bond between Jaime and Brienne while wisely keeping things platonic. Jaime becomes even more likeable, and if some of the audience isn€™t quite on board yet, they should be by this point. Through his experiences with Brienne, Jaime learns the value of honor and humility, a far cry from the man we knew back in season one. It is marvellous character development.
