Fish Mooney is a new character created for this series. The middle-aged and angry caricature is played by none other than Jada Pinkett Smith (aka Mrs. Will Smith). She was created to add some drama to the mob war taking place early in the season - a dangerous and merciless mid-level mobster who will stop at nothing to rise to the top of the Falcone Empire. At, least that is what the writers want you to believe. Fish does not come across as a vicious criminal. Instead, she comes across as a cartoonish version of a vicious criminal. Looking like she is trying too hard, Smith overacts every scene that she is in in an attempt to show her character's strength when she is doing the just the opposite. If the writers can tone down her character and show a vulnerability that makes her likeable, however, she may be redeemable.
